Ft. Worth, TX (June 1, 2023) – There are many recommendations for the best starter knives for the outdoor enthusiast or bush crafter. While some speak volumes about the potential benefits and outcomes one can expect with the ‘new’ or ‘improved’ tool, it often comes down to skill and practical application. Those starting out often fall prey to the ‘buy once, cry once’ mentality that does not always allow them the opportunity to make mistakes and learn.

TRUE has dedicated a set of knives for this very purpose. The PrimalForge Kit is a two-knife set suited and priced for those new to the outdoor and bushcraft world. The set comes with two knives: a 6.5” chopper and a 7.25” Tanto slicer. While these knives may be a bit large for those used to fine tasks and learned repetition, their size provides plenty of blade space to adjust and become accustomed to the overall functionality without easily risking injury. The chopper sits tall and has machined texturing near the blade's spine. The Tanto slicer matches the overall design and narrows in height down the blade. This knife features a concave blade line, allowing for slightly more surface area to be used with fine- cutting skills. Both knives are built with a rugged, dark mondo wood which is weather and moisture- resistant but not overly rough on the hand for continued use.

The blades are made from 5CR15MoV stainless steel, which is highly corrosion resistant. The 5CR15 has a Rockwell hardness of 54, which can hold an edge well but is not overly strong or prone to chipping. Using this steel provides an economical choice allowing users durability and strength without spending hundreds of dollars. For the beginner, this is an excellent option.

The PrimalForge Kit is a strong contender for outdoor and camp use. These blades, combined with the included wax canvas roll, can be taken safely on any adventure, camping trip, or excursion into a bushcraft/woodlore outing. With a solid and reliable steel type and an atypical but highly functional blade shape, these will last a long while and still provide excellent use as a tool
