Knife Safety and Usage Guidance

Proper care and maintenance are an important part of keeping your TRUE knives working as hard as you do.

Cleaning

We recommend cleaning your knife after every use with water and a mild soap. Avoid harsh soaps and abrasives to preserve the blade coatings and ensure the knife is rinsed and dried thoroughly and that no water is trapped in the moving parts. Once it’s completely dry, a small amount of stable oil or lubricant can be used to keep the knife working as intended. After lubricating, move the knife open and closed several times to help spread the lubricant evenly.

Maintenance

It is important to regularly inspect your knife and before each use to ensure that everything is working properly and that there is minimal wear and tear.

Always ensure your fingers are safely away from the blade edge while performing any tests. Open the blade slowly and pay specific attention to the locking system and pivot points. The lock arm should engage swiftly and consistently every time the knife is opened. Also open the blade normally and ensure that the lock arm engages the same as when it was opened slowly.

Once the blade is open, grab both the back of the blade and the handle—keeping your fingers away from the blade edge—and apply downward pressure on the blade. The blade should not move while the lock is engaged. If there is any movement, or if the lock arm does not fully engage, do not use the knife.

If there is any excessive grinding, or a gritty feel or sound in any of the knife’s moving parts, it may need cleaning and lubricating. After lubricating, move the knife open and closed several times to help spread the lubricant evenly.

Over time, vibrations and movement from using the knife can cause the screws to loosen. It is important to check and tighten the screws regularly to ensure they do not fall out and get lost. If the screws are consistently loosening, remove the screw and apply a small amount of medium strength thread-locker; this will keep the screws in place but allow you to remove them with tools if necessary.
